When you think of a glass, the same image often comes into mind: Something that is clear and plain and that just holds liquid. All glassware, however, is not created equal.

You can find some glassware sets that you can purchase for next to nothing, while others cost hundreds of dollars. What is the difference? A glass is just a glass, right? Wrong.

There are basically two types of glassware – tumblers and stemware. Tumblers are glasses that have a flat bottom and no handle, foot or stem. Stemware has a stem and a bowl or some shape that holds the liquid above it.

Glassware isn’t always clear, either. You can find glassware in all colors, as well as in a variety of prints and patterns. Some of the most expensive glassware is trimmed in solid gold.

Glassware also comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. There is small glassware like shot glasses and large glassware like pitchers. Personal preference and budget go a long way in determining the type of glassware that will work best for you.
