Noritake has been involved with fine china since the 19th century. Founded by the Morimura brothers, Noritake began as a trading company in New York in 1876. The company moved to Noritake, Japan in 1904 and began producing fine porcelain dinnerware shortly thereafter.
In the early years, most of the china that Noritake produced was hand-painted in ornate patterns and designs. In the decade of the 1920s, Noritake began to produce its china on an assembly line for a continued high quality at more affordable prices.
